About support and sync

Back up and sync is a storage service that automatically saves your photos and videos to your Google Account. These photos and videos will be accessible from any device where you are logged into your account.

Benefits

  • Never lose a memory: Any photos you lot accept from a device with backup enabled will be saved to your Google Account.
  • Automatic sync: Any edits y'all make or photos you lot accept will exist attainable across any device that you sign in to. If y'all edit and salve a photo on your phone, the photograph will await the same on Google Photos.
  • Fast and powerful search: You can search your photos by the people (when you've enabled face up group), places, and things in them. No tagging is required.

What you need to back up photos & videos

  • Good internet connectedness.
  • File sizes that tin be backed up.  Your files won't exist backed up if they are:
    • Photos larger than 200 MB or 150 MP
    • Videos larger than x GB.
    • Items smaller than 256 x 256.
  • File types that tin can be backed up.
    • Photos: .jpg, .heic, .png, .webp, .gif, and some RAW files.
    • Live photos can be backed up if you use the Google Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
    • Videos: .mpg, .modernistic, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv files.

If you effort to back up a file type not listed here, information technology may not work with Google Photos.

Important: Your Google Account storage is shared beyond multiple products similar Google Photos, Google Bulldoze, and Gmail. If you have used all of your storage, yous won't exist able to back up new files.

There are 2 ways to support your phone, photographic camera, or storage card from your computer:

  1. Install Backup and Sync.
  2. Upload photos from your browser.

Gear up Google Drive for desktop

  1. On your computer, download and install Google Bulldoze for Desktop.
  2. Sign in to your Google Business relationship.
  3. Select the folders or pictures you want to support and thenBack up to Google Photos.
  4. Select Done and thenSalve.

Important:

  • If you remove a photo or video from your calculator that y'all previously backed upwardly to Google Photos, it stays in Google Photos.
  • If y'all remove a photo or video from Google Photos, it isn't removed from Google Drive or your estimator.
  • Uploads can be slower and employ more storage if you back up to both Google Photos and Google Drive. Unless you lot need a second re-create in Drive, we recommend you back up photos and videos to Google Photos.

If you already have Backup and Sync for Drive

Backup and Sync is now Google Drive for desktop.

If y'all already have Fill-in and Sync installed, you'll exist migrated to Google Drive for desktop.

To upgrade sooner, uninstall Backup and Sync then follow the steps higher up to set up Google Drive for desktop.

Select a dissimilar upload size

You can change the upload size for photos and videos backed up to Google Photos from your computer.

Important: Yous can't change the upload size for files synced with Google Bulldoze.

Back up your Apple Photograph Library (Mac only)

If your figurer runs macOS, yous tin can dorsum upward your System Photo Library to Google Photos.

Tips:

  • If you lot take more than ane Apple Photos Library, only the System Photo Library will be backed up. You tin use Apple Photos to change the System Photo Library.
  • If your Apple Photo Library is synced with iCloud, all photos and videos in your library and deject will be backed upward to Google Photos on macOS 10.15 and to a higher place.

Upload items to Google Photos from your browser

  1. On your calculator, open photos.google.com.
  2. At the height right, click Upload and thenComputer.
  3. Notice and select your photos.
  4. Click Open.

You tin can also drag photos from your computer to the album to upload them to Google Photos. If you lot drag a photo to a specific album, the photo will be uploaded to that album.

In Google Photos, you lot can view how you uploaded your photos and videos.
